Brig. Gen. Crisaleo Tolentino, director of the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), carried out an inspection of security arrangements at the San Carlos City Public Cemetery in Barangay Rizal on Saturday, according to Daily Tribune. The visit came as authorities prepare for the crowds expected to visit graves during Undas.
The inspection was intended to evaluate how police are deployed, the security measures in place, and how ready personnel are for the observance of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, Daily Tribune reports.
Lt. Col. Lawrence Keith Calub, chief of the San Carlos City Police Station, walked Tolentino through the station's deployment plan and the assignment of personnel during the inspection.
Why it matters
Undas draws large numbers of Filipinos to cemeteries across the country, and keeping those sites orderly and safe falls largely on local police units. The regional command's decision to send its top official to a city cemetery in Pangasinan signals that preparedness is being checked on the ground rather than only on paper.
The assessment centered on whether officers are prepared, whether they maintain discipline while on duty, and whether they can react quickly to security incidents and other problems that may arise among cemetery visitors. Those three concerns frame much of the planning for the holiday period.
Regional checks underway
PRO1 said inspections of the same kind are taking place at cemeteries and other public locations throughout the region, part of an effort to keep peace and order during Undas 2026. The command did not release details on the number of officers assigned or the specific measures planned for San Carlos.
For visitors, the practical effect is a visible police presence at one of the busiest gathering points in the city during the holiday. For the police station, the inspection served as a review of its plan before the expected surge in foot traffic.
Watch for further announcements from PRO1 and the San Carlos City Police Station on deployment numbers and any traffic or entry rules for cemeteries as Undas approaches.
